Wisslead repeats as state 300-meter hurdles champion

Cody Wisslead of West Prairie/LaHarpe finished his high school career by winning the Class A 300-meter hurdle state title and placing third in the long jump at Saturday’s state finals in Charleston.

Cody Wisslead is the Illinois Class A state champion in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles for the second straight year.

Wisslead ended his high school career Saturday, May 26, with a state championship in the 300 hurdles at the Class A state track and field meet at O'Brien Stadium in Charleston. Wisslead won in a time of 37.35 seconds, just edging Orion's Logan Hohl at the finish line.

Wisslead was third in the long jump with a leap of 21-feet, 11 3/4-inches.

He scored enough points to help West Prairie/LaHarpe to finish tied for 11th place with 17 points.

Nick Frese overcame a year of injuries to finish eighth in the triple jump for Central/ Southeastern. Frese had a jump of 41-8 1/4.

Zach Wood was sixth in the high jump (6-4), while Dylan Morris finished 10th.
