Chargers place second at Macomb volleyball tournament

Illini West went 4-1 to finish in second place at the Macomb Tournament Saturday at Western Illinois University.

The Chargers (19-7) went 4-1 at the Macomb Tournament Saturday finishing in second place.

Illini West lost to Washington 25-19, 25-23 in the championship match. Kortney Freeman had 13 set assists. Erica Eddington had eight digs. Amy Byers had seven digs. Sarah Link had four digs. Danielle Gronewold had two kills and two blocks.

The Chargers defeated Beardstown 25-16, 25-15. Danielle Gronewold had six blocks and three kills. Morgan Mohr had three blocks and three kills. Freeman had 14 set assists. Byers had 11 service points, including four aces, and four digs. Morgan Pollock had nine service points. Randi Gronewold had three kills.

Illini West defeated Petersburg Porta 25-11, 25-18. Randi Gronewold had nine kills, three blocks and four digs. Freeman had 11 set assists and five digs. Mohr and Pollock each had seven service points. Pollock had three kills.

The Chargers defeated Sherrard 25-20, 25-19 to finish 3-0 in the Black Pool. Danielle Gronewold had four blocks and five kills. Freeman had three blocks and 23 set assists. Eddington had eight service points. Byers had seven service points, including three aces, and three digs. Link had seven digs. Randi Gronewold had seven kills and seven digs. Pollock had four kills.

Illini West won their fourth straight match of the tournament with a 25-15, 25-14 win over Macomb. Stats were unavailable.

Danielle Gronewold was named to the all-tournament first team. Mohr and Freeman were named to the second team.

In regular season action, Illini West lost to Camp Point Central 25-21, 18-25, 23-25. Randi Gronewold had eight kills and 10 digs. Pollock had six kills. Mohr had five kills. Freeman had four kills, four blocks and 24 set assists. Byers had four kills, six digs and eight service points.

Nauvoo-Colusa/Hamilton

The Lady Vikings (5-15) went 1-4 at the Macomb Tournament Saturday at Western Illinois University. In the Orange Pool, they lost to Bushnell-Prairie City/ Avon 25-19, 19-25, 12-15; Macomb 18-25, 15-25; and Warsaw 19-25, 12-25.

The team lost to Sherrard 23-25, 13-25 before defeating North Fulton 26-24, 25-23 to finish in 11th place.

In regular season matches, the Lady Vikings lost to Payson-Seymour 25-21, 25-19. Halie Schilson had six kills and five blocks. Becca Elschlager had six kills and four digs.

Nauvoo-Colusa/Hamilton lost to West Prairie 25-14, 25-20.

Southeastern

The Lady Suns (20-9) went 1-4 at the Quincy High volleyball tournament last weekend.

Southeastern defeated West Central 25-15, 19-25, 17-16. They lost to Jefferson City 16-25, 22-25; Hartem 18-25, 17-25; and Douglas MacArthur 22-25, 25-20, 14-16. In the tournament, Kaitlyn Hiland and Shelby Lanning each had 23 kills. Josie Holst had 72 set assists. Mallary Owen had 41 digs.

Southeastern defeated Warsaw 25-14, 25-16. Megan Miller had six kills. Holst had 16 set assists.

Southeastern defeated QND 25-20, 18-25, 25-22. Hiland had seven kills. Holst had 20 set assists. Amber Farwell had 15 digs.

Warsaw

The Lady Wildcats (14-11) placed fifth at the Macomb Tournament Saturday at Western Illinois University with a 3-2 record.

Warsaw lost to Monmouth-Roseville in the fourth place match 20-25, 25-16, 6-15. They advanced to the fourth place match with a 25-13, 14-25, 15-7 win over Petersburg Porta.

In the Orange Pool, Warsaw lost to Macomb 27-25, 25-22; defeated Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon 14-25, 25-21, 15-9; and defeated Nauvoo-Colusa/Hamilton 25-19, 25-12.

Marley Hall was named to the all-tournament first team.

Warsaw defeated Keokuk 24-26, 25-14, 25-16. 25-16, playing the best three out of five games in Iowa. Hall had 24 kills and four blocks. Alyssa Gerhardt had 11 kills. Cassie Weigand had nine kills. Alaina Dennis had nine ace serves. Olivia Kerr had 32 set assists.

Warsaw lost to Southeastern 25-14, 25-16.

Warsaw defeated Liberty 25-18, 16-25, 26-24. Hall had 10 kills and five blocks. Weigand had seven kills. Kerr had 17 set assists. Dennis had three service aces.

Sectional seeds

The Southeastern Lady Suns are the top seed in Sub-sectional B in the Class 1A Abingdon Sectional.

West Prairie was seeded third and Warsaw was seeded sixth. Nauvoo-Colusa/ Hamilton was seeded 12th.

United was the top seed in Sub-sectional A.

In Class 2A, Illini West is the fourth seed in Sub-sectional A in the Riverton Sectional, one place behind Camp Point Central.

Bloomington Central Catholic is the top seed in Sub-sectional A. Carlinville is the top seed in Sub-sectional B.
