LH Summerfest begins Aug. 6

Armstrong Entertain-ment will perform in two different styles on Wednesday and Thursday nights at LaHarpe Summerfest 2008.

On Wednesday Aug. 6, Jerry Armstrong will present his solo act as a singer impressionist. He sings the songs of many great artists including Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond, Franki Valli. Jerry has performed at many venues in the Midwest, especially in the Chicago area, and lends his talent at events like county fairs, clubs & resorts. He has a singing telegram service.

Then on Thursday, Aug. 7, Jerry returns as rhythm guitar player and vocalist with The Jerry Armstrong Band. This four piece group performs tunes from the 1950s to the 1990s. Past performances for this dynamic group include the Signature Room in the John Hancock Building and Daly Plaza in Chicago, Notre Dame University, corporate events and many other great venues.

Lawn chairs are recommended for seating at the nightly entertainment.

LaHarpe Summerfest welcomes a local tri-state country singer, Kurt Wooldridge, on Friday night, Aug. 8. Along with his band, South 61, he is well known in the area performing in Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, Dallas City, Oquawka, and other local venues.

Having played in both rock and country groups gives Woldridge a diverse style. While playing with Jake McVey, the group won the first round of The Colgate Country Showdown, Americas largest country music talent search. He has performed in the region before such signed acts as Cheap Trick, Trace Adkins, Joe Nichols, Dierks Bentley and Trick Pony. Kurt has also performed with Black Diamond at a semi - professional national level, playing all around the Midwest at casinos, fairs & corporate events.

Kurt spends his time writing songs and working towards a degree from Berklee Online with a focus in music business.

Local talent finishes the weekend, with the lip sync contest at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Special meals are served at the Masonic Lodge, including barbecued beef n Wednesday, fried fish on Thursday, chicken on Friday night and pork chops Saturday night.

The Lions Club holds frog jumping at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night, and turtle races at 6:30 p.m. Friday night. There will be ice cream, cake and pie each evening.

Saturday events include breakfast at 6:30 a.m.; kids one-block race at 8 a.m.; fun and games for kids at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.; and the parade at 10:30 a.m.

More food, events and fun continue all weekend.
