The board of directors of Sherrick Drug & Medical announces the sale of the pharmacy and durable medical equipment to Wear Drug Inc. The sale should be finalized in early November.
Craig Wear, co-owner of Wear Drug, said customers of both pharmacies should see an easy transition. After the purchase is finalized, Wear Drug will merge the two pharmacies to create a larger pharmacy presence in the County Market store, Wear's location since 2006.
“There will not be any interruption in service,” said Wear, “and we look forward to forming one staff and serving the people of Hancock County for many years to come, continuing to offer free delivery and free prescription mailing. The only difference will be the location where patients may pick up prescriptions.”
The durable medical equipment (DME) segment of the Sherrick business will stay in its present location, Wear said, on the north side of the downtown Carthage square. New owners Wear and Ryan Jacquot have purchased the building and will call this new expanded business MORE Medical, (Mobility Oxygen & Rehabilitation Equipment). They plan to grow and expand this line of business.
Jacquot is originally from Basco, and graduated from Warsaw High School in 1999. He has been living in St. Louis for seven years, and is eager to return to the area for this business opportunity.
“It is exciting to be a part of this growing business,” said Jacquot. “This will be good for Hancock County and its residents.”
Wear agrees. “We feel the resources of increased staff and volume will enable us to grow and expand the medical equipment side of the business as well as the long-term-care component of our pharmacy,” said Wear. “These are ways in which we can bring business to Carthage and Hancock County that otherwise might not come here.”
Sherrick Home Health Agency is not a component of the sale and will continue to provide services to area residents. Sherrick Home Health provides home health services including intermittent skilled nursing, home health aide, physical therapy, and occupational therapy to residents in the Hancock and surrounding Illinois counties.
The Sherrick board considered the decision to sell very carefully. It is believed this transition will allow an even stronger pharmacy presence and expanded customer service opportunities in the Hancock County area.
Sherrick Drug is affiliated with Memorial Hospital, but is operated by a separate board of directors. Any funds generated from the sale of Sherrick's will return to the Memorial Hospital Association endowment fund from which the funds were borrowed to begin the DME business in 1986 and purchase Sherrick Drug in 1990.
