Marcella Romelle Ancelet, 91, of Owatonna, Minn., formerly of Carthage, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Sunday morning, March 3, 2024, in Owatonna.

Romelle was born May 22, 1932, the daughter of Glen and Beatrice (Walton) Clark in Harmony Township, Hancock County. After high school, she went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Knox College, Galesburg. She was a lifelong teacher of Spanish and language arts, retiring in 1995. Romelle was a member of First Christian Churches in Carthage and Burlington, Iowa, where she served on many committees, taught Sunday School and helped prepare numerous funeral meals. She was also a member of Eastern Star, TOPS and the Red Hat Society. In addition she enjoyed bridge club and volunteering at the Carthage Hospital.

Romelle is survived by her children, Heather (Stuart) Crum of Owatonna, Teresa Ancelet of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Darren Ancelet of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; grandchildren, Will Crum, Alyssa (Albert) Rysavy and Ian Crum; her sister, Betty Hellyer; and nephews, Denny (Candy) Hellyer, Greg (Donna) Hellyer and Scott (Bev) Hellyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Glenda Bea Ancelet; and former husband, Vernon Ancelet.

Romelle had a heart overflowing with pride for her family and took every opportunity to show them off. Whether it was dining out or attending church, every person she encountered was an opportunity to highlight her cherished loved ones. She will be remembered fondly for the part she played in planning memorable family vacations alongside her sister, Betty. From leisurely days spent at the Carthage Pool to weekends at Fun City, road trips to Six Flags and even a scenic train ride to Chicago. These trips became treasured memories for the whole family.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 8, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Bentley. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
